Designing assessment centres in the virtual and real worlds

10:50 AM - 12:50 PM

Promotional description

Assessment centres have been a popular tool for selection and development across industries for decades, providing an opportunity to assess large numbers of candidates using engaging and job-relevant activities. However, as industries, roles, recruitment priorities, and technology have changed in recent years, the way we design and deliver assessment centres has had to adapt. The challenges presented by the pandemic and lockdowns have presented further challenges, necessitating the move to more virtual solutions.

The great challenge amidst all of this change lies in staying true to (and re-evaluating) best practice, maintaining valid selection processes, and creating a positive candidate experience.

Join us for a hands-on workshop on designing and running assessment centres (from concept through to delivery), in both the real world and online. As well as scoping and designing a day plan and identifying core competencies, participants will also have the opportunity to design and participate in assessment centre activities. We will also explore the different factors that influence how candidates perform, as well as how to optimize candidate experience. Finally, we will take participants through our ‘lessons learned’ from two years of running Virtual Assessment Centres online and how this differs to in-person for candidates, assessors, and facilitators.

Learning outcomes

At the conclusion of this event, participants will:
•Have an understanding of best practice in assessment centre design and delivery
•Know how to scope and design an assessment centre, including identifying competencies, selecting/designing activities, and creating a day plan
•Understand the differences between virtual and in-person assessment centres in terms of candidate experience, delivery modalities, activities, and impacts on performance
•Understand some of the factors which impact candidate experience and how to design an assessment centre that enhances candidate experience

Participants will also get hands-on experience with assessment centre activities and are expected to get involved with some group exercises throughout the session.
