Dr. Fiona Martin was elected into the Federal Parliament of Australia in May 2019 and served as the first female member for Reid. Fiona was by all accounts, the first ever registered Psychologist elected into the Federal Parliament. Fiona is an endorsed Educational Developmental Psychologist with 20 years of clinical and research experience. Before entering politics, she spent 13 years operating a busy private practice on Sydney’s lower north shore. Fiona has a long standing interest in politics, government and policy development. Throughout her career she has advocated for mental health and suicide prevention, women and children’s health and safety, and people with disabilities. Fiona is passionate about improving the health outcomes of all Australians through evidence based practice and policy, advocacy and systematic reform. During her time in Federal Parliament Fiona took a bipartisan approach on important issues like mental health, working across political party lines, to achieve good outcomes.
