Building organisational capability is core to the role of senior leadership. It has long been known most businesses are talent dependent. Without good people and leadership, they will fail. There is a strong business case for why organisations need to identify and nurture talent for the future. Impactful talent management goes beyond defining potential and identification of individual future leaders. The best leaders don’t leave this to HR; they actively engage in ongoing stewarding of talent at the individual, team and organisational level.
This presentation focuses on why people’s relationship with senior managers is a key driver to the engagement and retention of talented people. It describes how the disciplines such as providing constructive feedback, role modelling an attitude of lifelong learning and mentoring (versus sponsoring) positively impact organisational culture and engagement.

Anthony is an organisational psychologist who has over 30 years' experience in various settings, with most of his career focused in the areas of talent identification, leadership development, change leadership and team building. He has worked broadly across public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Anthony co-authored People Measures’ award-winning research into identifying future potential, has presented keynote speeches on the latest research into high performing teams and team building workshops and is an advisor to the Australian Public Service Commission on talent related issues. Anthony regularly works at the most senior level of organisations as a coach and facilitator. Anthony has run team building workshops for the top teams in Government and the NGO sector. He has been a presenter and facilitator at executive retreats for significant private and public sector companies.
