Self-reflection, insight and leadership in resilience training: Applications for the workplace

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Promotional description

Demands on employees seem to be ever increasing! How can we use these demands to develop insight, learning, performance and improved mental health? This symposium is aimed at academics and practitioners alike who are interested in strengthening resilience within the workplace. Four papers including a cross-sectional study, a qualitative analysis, measurement design and a randomised controlled trial, will highlight the current status of research into systematic self-reflection resilience training. The conclusions drawn will focus on implementation of findings to support the delivery of effective and lasting resilience strengthening programs that benefit organisations and the people who work in them.

Learning outcomes

Participants will gain a deeper understanding about how self-reflection and insight may strengthen resilience in workplace settings. This will include: (1) an introduction to the Systematic Self-Reflection (SSR) model of resilience strengthening; (2) an exploration of the inconsistent findings regarding the relationship between self-reflection and mental health, and the role that insight plays in mediating this relationship; (3) a qualitative investigation into the insights about stressor events and coping strategies that emerge during participation in the Self-Reflection Resilience Training (SRT) program; (4) an explanation of the development of a new measure of coping insight, and; (5) a quantitative evaluation of SRT focused on identifying the conditions that reinforce the benefits of resilience training in an organisational setting, with a particular focus on the role of supervisors. Participants will be equipped with practical ideas about how to maximise the effectiveness of resilience training in the workplace.
