Will those who have been abused for speaking up ever voice again?

1:55 PM - 2:15 PM

Promotional description

The experience of negative repercussions for speaking up can be traumatic for employees. Unfortunately, the industries in which speaking up is vital for outcomes like health and safety (e.g., construction) are also plagued by toxic cultures and bullying behaviours that suppress voice. But not all is lost. Our research shows that effective Human Resources practices can offset the negative effects of repercussions and lessen their adverse impact on employee safety voice. This study has important implications for the way HR systems and deployed and monitored in high risk settings.

Learning outcomes

At the conclusion of this event, attendees will be able to:

- Adequately describe the characteristics and features of high performance work systems.
- Understand the importance of psychological safety and speaking up behaviours in high risk settings.
- Know 1-2 strategies about how to optimise HR practices to promote employee voice.
