Expanding the application of an individual protocol for the Circle of Security intensive intervention
2:30 PM - 2:50 PMAbstract
Circle of Security (COS) is a model designed to support parents develop an understanding of the attachment needs of their children. It has been implemented in a range of formats including the original intensive, individualised intervention (delivered in a group context) and a DVD-based format (Circle of Security Parenting [COS-P]). The approach described in this paper could be considered a hybrid of these existing formats of COS. It retains the key element of video review from the original intensive form, showing the client footage of themselves interacting with their own child. It also incorporates clips from COS-P to provide the client with the experience of watching other parents and their children interacting (as they would in the original intensive format). It is proposed that this protocol enables access to COS for those parents for whom a group format may not be appropriate. This paper will highlight the broad application of this individual protocol through the case of a mother and her 8-year-old child.
