Body image, social media & health: A case study of body confident mums

11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Abstract

The workshop will present background on the links between body image, social media, and health behaviour, with a particular focus on new mums and post-natal health. Current data suggests that perceived pressure from friends, family, and the media (and increasingly social media) to look a certain way places great pressure on individual body image and health behaviour. In the context of motherhood, many women report feeling pressure to 'bounce back' to their 'pre-baby body'. Zali, Laura, & Ivanka are the co-founders of Body Confident Mums (www.bodyconfidentmums.org), and will present Body Confident Mums as a case study examining social media engagement and evidence for resources to promote psychological health in mothers.
