This brief historical review illustrates that what we would now call neuropsychological research has a long history at the University of Melbourne, although the early research has not been without controversy. More recently, the emergence of a graduate professional program in clinical neuropsychology relied on the initiatives of many staff in several faculties, including staff whose names are not usually associated with the origins of the graduate program. The role of these staff in initiating a formal program in clinical neuropsychology, the first in Australia, deserves better recognition.
