Clinical Conundrums: Learnings from the Neuropsychiatry Unit
2:00 PM - 3:00 PMSummary
This professional development session aims to use four cases to highlight some of the areas of expertise within the Neuropsychiatry Unit and the importance of partnerships with other professional organisations, consumer organisations and support organisations. Showcasing the breadth of neuropsychology work in these areas, this forum will look at issues such as genetic testing and partnerships with neurogenetics; chronic mental illness and provision of service to areas previously neglected in funding; Huntingtons's disease and the role we play in research and clinical trials as well as some of the challenges in trying to establish service partnerships for working with people with functional neurological disorders.
Key learning goals include:
- differential diagnosis in young onset dementia (YOD)
- differentiating between psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders using cognitive profiles and new technologies (NLF)
- understanding the cognitive sequelae of major mental illness and possible remediation options
- differential diagnosis of functional neurological disorders (FND) and functional cognitive disorders (FCD)
- treatment approaches for FND/FCD
- exploration of new treatment approaches and research for people living with Huntington's disease
