Memory group interventions for older adults: Evidence-base, research translation, and practical application.

8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Summary

There is increasing demand for neuropsychological interventions for older adults. The LaTCH memory management program is an evidence-based group intervention, with over 10 years of research and implementation behind it. In this workshop, participants will gain knowledge regarding the evidence for neuropsychological interventions with older adults, how an intervention can be translated into various clinical settings, and what are the barriers and facilitators of this translation. They will also gain knowledge regarding specific challenges to successful implementation in clinical practice, and will actively brainstorm ways to mitigate these. Older adults present unique cognitive profiles due to environmental influences, genetic vulnerabilities, mental health, and accumulated lifestyle choices. This leads to diverse health outcomes, risk factors, and resilience to the challenges of cognitive ageing. These individual differences in cognitive resources, and in particular memory, require a range of different approaches for optimal outcomes. Participants will engage in exercises to develop their skills around teaching memory strategies to older adults, troubleshooting difficulties, and how to effectively support their implementation into daily life.
