Summary

Whilst there are some international position papers relating to issues in practice, many observers have noted that issues arise in discussion groups where members are seeking direction. The National Executive has allowed our group to begin work on drafting statements relevant to the experience of our members. Topics to be explored include the issues of screening assessments, serial assessment and other important professional issues. A brief review of the current literature and draft guidelines will be presented. This is a work in progress, but an opportunity to view the progress and contribute ideas.

Debbie trained at the University of Melbourne and has practised in Queensland since completing her course in 1989. She initially worked in public hospital settings before moving into full time private work. She evaluates clients both at the referral of treating doctors and as an independent expert in medicolegal cases (personal injuries civil matters and cognitive aspects of capacity to stand trial in criminal matters). She enjoys the challenge of fully evaluating complex cases, and had given evidence in legal proceedings on a number of occasions. Currently chair of the Qld Section of the CCN, she actively promotes the value neuropsychology and quality professional development activities. She is passionate about training the next generation of professionals, so supervises new graduates, and does some university lecturing on clinical neuropsychology. Her most recent project combines self-care for clinicians and professional education, organising overseas retreats for neuropsychologists.
