Is Emotional Intelligence the key to everything?

Promotional description

In an age where digital connectedness is at it’s highest, we are lonelier, more inter-personally disconnected. We have generations that have learnt how to craft and manage their presentational selves, but not their authentic selves. We have more information at our fingertips, but seem to be more reactive and fearful as a society than ever.

However, rather than demonising modern culture and new technologies, can we leverage these new tools and ways of working to turn the tide and drive empathy, authenticity and increase social and emotional learning to levels never before seen. Can we reconceptualise the way we look at emotional intelligence learning to align with how our brains are naturally evolving to survive in this new digital world? Can we flip the modern obsession with the pursuit of ‘happiness’ (and the avoidance of anything considered ‘negative’) with the pursuit of self-awareness, grace, and self-control?

In this short TedX style session, we explore what the research shows regarding the impact of emotional intelligence on performance and general mental health, and lift the lid on simple techniques and tools that will held embed deeper emotional intelligence in yourself, and the people around you for a better tomorrow.

Learning outcomes

During this session the audience will be able to recall and demonstrate practical ways to Increase emotionally intelligent behaviours through four focus areas:

1. The trust and rapport between leaders and follower (i.e. students and teachers)
2. The emotional language base - to include words the indicate levels of emotion, not just overall emotional state (i.e concerned or panicked rather than simply ‘anxious’)
3. The simple collection use of real-time data
4. A handful of pre-learnt switches (mental techniques) to better understand and manage emotional reactivity
