High-performing teams: Exploring demands and resources in the team environment

11:40 AM - 12:00 PM

Promotional description

The complexities in understanding what makes a team high-performing are as much a challenge for researchers as industry professionals. Building on recent research that looks holistically at teams through four different aspects of the team environment, this presentation will cover the findings of a recent mixed-method research study that focused on key aspects of high-performing teams. The study looked at team composition, and processes and outcomes, through the lens of the Job Demands-Resources model. This research examines a broad range of factors that influence the experience of a team, including aspects relating to the tasks completed by team members, how they interact with one another, the way they think and feel, and the context and conditions in which they work. This presentation aims to provide researchers and practitioners with a broader range of considerations for team diagnosis and development by viewing the team experience through the Four Environments framework which describes the broad grouping of demands and resources experienced by team members.

Learning outcomes

- Conceptualise teams through the Four Environments framework and Job Demand-Resource model

- Understand how perceptions of demands and resources differ between teams varying in perceived performance and diversity

- Understand how to apply the Four Environments framework and Job Demand-Resource model concurrently to explore team experiences
