Decentralising Culture Change: Empowering managers to transform organisational culture

11:20 AM - 11:40 AM

Promotional description

Decades of research has demonstrated that organisational culture really matters, both for the wellbeing of employees and the success of organisations. However, culture change is notoriously difficult. Most organisations are much better at measuring their culture than actually changing it. Arguably, one of the biggest reasons for this is that culture change has traditionally been viewed as the sole responsibility of a few key people. More often than not, HR/P&C and a few senior leaders are tasked with turning around the culture of the whole organisation via a centralised top-down approach. This daunting task is made especially difficult given that an organisation’s culture is rarely homogenous. Instead, there is generally huge variability in the norms and experiences of employees across different parts of the organisation.
In this talk, we’ll explore how real cultural change might be achieved through a bottom-up decentralised approach.. We’ll explore how many leaders throughout the organisation can be equipped and empowered to understand the culture of their own teams/departments and act to drive change.
